wall art

I'm a sucker for illustrations, especially of flowers.

I bought these last summer and have them framed on my wall.

{ I Want To Go To There } Cactarium in Palm Springs

As Liz Lemon says.

I found these photos from Amy Merrick's blog. She is a florist and a stylist based in NYC. Can someone say dream job?

I have not been to Palm Springs but should I ever make a trip out there, I will need to stop here. I can look at this stuff all day. Soooo many varieties!

Plumeria

image via Hawaiian Coconut

I can never get enough of that fragrance and those beautiful flowers.
I miss Bali.
I'm hoping and praying my plumeria cutting becomes something.

Reusable and Upcycle Growing Containers

You don't need to go out and buy seed starting containers. You can find these seed starting containers right in your own household.

Egg carton
The Hairy Vetch and Blue Bachelor seeds are already coming up.
I also planted sunflowers, rose moss, blue forget me nots, canterbury, impatients, love in a mist, yucca, & Himalayan poppy.

Magazine paper, except I really should've used newspaper. So far only the Brussels sprouts and bok choi have come out....

I used some strawberry/blueberry containers that already have drainage and I have a few yogurt cups as well.

The soil looked really ugly on this baby spider so I covered it up with shells I've collected over the years.

Most of my seeds this year have been left overs or seed trades but I couldn't resist when I stopped by my local nursery to pick these up.
I've never seen Columbines before, I really like Dahlias but have never planted them before. Chamomile tea is delicious and can't wait to grow these. Of course I am a fan of carnations, they are supposedly hard to grow but I'll try it anyway.

Spider baby updates! Every part that flowers will have a baby at the end of it. I will have tons of babies by summer I hope!

companion planting

I've always wondered about how certain plants help each other grow and benefit each other and ward off insects but now I have found the mother-lode of companion planting.

Check this Wikipedia link for herbs, vegetables and flowers.
Of course it's not a complete list, but it's a great start.

geometric terrariums

I love these geometric shaped terrariums.

I'm eyeing these guys from Anthropologie but they are so expensive!!! One way when I'm feeling like I have too much money and don't know what to do with it, I'll purchase all of these.

succulent party

Walked around Union Square market today and found a couple flower/plant vendors. I can never not stop by one of these.

Adromischus leuophyllus (I think) - I wish there were an easier name for this...
This plant is called Kalanchoe "Frosty Purple"

Gollum Jade plant with a bonus friend that fell off from another plant. I'm hoping that it's a baby burrow's tail because I've been wanting it for a while.

Lastly, the lady at the lavender stand gave me one... and it reminds me of France. My friend and I did a 4 hour tour of lavender fields, which was excessive and lavender is forever embedded into my brain. You know, just in case I forgot what lavender smelled like I took this one.

Happy first day of Spring!!!

Alley Cats

I came across these heart warming images from this blog and I feel fuzzy inside.

This alley in Sydney Australia has a bunch of cats and plants.... this is as close as dying and going to heaven.

Seed swap

I finally did my seed exchange yesterday and I have a ton of new things to plant!
Some of them I have to wait until it gets a little bit warmer, maybe when I come back from Miami I will start them.

I planted Crocus and hopefully the chill from the coming snow will help it. It was from an assorted batch so it'll be a surprise if/when they come up.
